Cost support built through August. Steel mills in North China began maintenance on blast furnaces and wire rod rolling lines in early August amid low profitability and high inventory [1]. Coking coal supply tightened in late August because of strict safety inspections and reduced Mongolian imports, lifting coke prices [2].
On the supply side, mills in Central China reported stable wire rod supply during late August, with production enthusiasm remaining insufficient despite a recovery in market sentiment [4]. Zenith Steel Mill set a provisional price of 3,520 yuan/tonne for wire rod for the September 1 period [3].
