Wire Rod Price in China Rises 4.2% to USD 1,434/tonne
Drawing grade wire rod in China climbed to USD 1,434/tonne on 2026-09-03, up 4.2% on the week and 7.6% on the month.
Wire rod, drawing grade (alt feed) in China was priced at USD 1,434/tonne as of 2026-09-03. The weekly change was +4.2% from USD 1,376/tonne on 2026-08-27, and the monthly change was +7.6% from USD 1,333/tonne on 2026-08-04. The quarterly change was +0.4% from USD 1,428/tonne on 2026-06-05, while the yearly change was +43.5% from USD 998.98/tonne on 2025-09-03. The 52-week high stands at USD 1,453/tonne on 2026-05-25 and the 52-week low at USD 877.24/tonne on 2025-12-24.
According to Shanghai Metals Market (SMM), steel mills implemented voluntary production cuts and maintenance in August across multiple regions, reducing total wire rod output by 3.78% compared to July.
Shanghai Metals Market (SMM) also reported that market sentiment recovered in late August as hot weather subsided, driving speculative demand and lowering mill inventories by the end of the month.
Promisteel reported that Japan imposed provisional anti-dumping duties of 29.2% to 55.3% on Chinese hot-dipped galvanized steel starting August 8, increasing export trade barrier risks.
