According to Claight market monitoring, coking coal supplies tightened due to strict safety inspections and lower Mongolian import volumes, increasing production costs for steel wire rods. Claight market monitoring also shows that Chinese steel mills voluntarily reduced wire rod and rebar output throughout August to address industry-wide profit margin compression.
Mysteel reported that refined copper imports fell 14 percent month-on-month in July, tightening domestic spot availability and supporting price levels. The same source noted that aluminum wire and cable exports declined 8.5 percent month-on-month in July as the domestic-foreign price spread narrowed.
