Urea Price in China Eases to USD 254.87/tonne
Chinese urea prices slipped marginally over the week and month while remaining above year-ago levels, with inventories and exports shaping supply.
Urea in China was priced at USD 254.87/tonne as of 2026-09-03, down 0.1% from USD 255.20/tonne on 2026-08-27. The price is 1.1% lower than the USD 257.64/tonne recorded on 2026-08-04 and 3.5% below the USD 264.02/tonne quoted on 2026-06-05. On an annual basis it is 6.3% higher than USD 239.66/tonne on 2025-09-03.
Over the past 52 weeks the commodity reached a high of USD 275.98/tonne on 2026-04-16 and a low of USD 220.48/tonne on 2025-10-13.
Supply conditions have been shaped by policy and inventory developments. According to ChemNet on 2026-06-17, the China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association raised third-quarter self-discipline guiding prices by 120-210 yuan/ton to offset rising raw material costs. ECHEMI reported on 2026-05-29 that China allocated approximately 2 million tonnes of urea export quotas for a June-to-August window to manage domestic supply.
Mysteel data show domestic in-plant inventory reached a 2026 peak of 1.6186 million tonnes on 2026-07-30, driven by high operating rates and sluggish demand. Mysteel also reported on 2026-08-21 that China urea exports rebounded in July to 403,438 tonnes as producers sought overseas outlets for high domestic inventories.
