Sugar Price in China Holds at USD 772.74/tonne
Chinese sugar prices were unchanged week on week while industrial inventories and the new season's early mill start-up frame the supply picture.
Sugar in China was quoted at USD 772.74/tonne as of 2026-09-29, down 0.0% from USD 773.13/tonne a week earlier. The monthly change was +0.2% from USD 771.23/tonne on 2026-08-28, while the quarter change stood at -0.4% from USD 775.87/tonne on 2026-07-01. Year on year, the price is down 5.4% from USD 817.28/tonne on 2025-09-29.
The 52-week high was USD 821.83/tonne on 2025-10-17 and the 52-week low was USD 749.89/tonne on 2025-12-19.
Claight market monitoring shows national industrial sugar inventories reached 2.22 million tonnes by August end, a 91% year-on-year increase. That leaves a larger than usual stock position heading into the new crushing season.
On the supply side, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs kept its 2026/27 sugar production forecast unchanged at 12.93 million tonnes in its 2026-09-11 update. FanTang Technology reported that Inner Mongolia beet sugar mills began processing operations starting September 16, marking the start of processing activity in the new season.
