Claight market monitoring shows that Middle East conflict risks drove up international crude oil and upstream butadiene costs, supporting higher SBR prices. Sinopec cumulatively increased SBR ex-factory prices by 1,200 RMB/ton in July, followed by an 800 RMB/ton increase by August 18.
Supply tightened in late August and early September. According to Claight market monitoring, Shenhua Chemical cut its SBR facility operating rate to 60% on August 24, with a full maintenance shutdown scheduled for September 2, while Zhejiang Weitai Rubber shut down its 100,000-ton/year SBR unit due to a typhoon on August 27 and resumed feedstock input on August 31.
Claight market monitoring shows traders in the Jiangsu-Zhejiang region increased SBR offers by 200-300 RMB/tonne on September 1, citing cost support from crude oil trends.
