Steel scrap in China was quoted at USD 351.87/tonne on 2026-09-03, an increase of 0.6% from USD 349.61/tonne on 2026-08-27. The price is up 1.7% over the month from USD 345.94/tonne on 2026-08-04 and 4.7% over the year from USD 335.92/tonne on 2025-09-03. Over the quarter it is down 0.5% from USD 353.74/tonne on 2026-06-05.

The 52-week high stands at USD 356.51/tonne on 2026-05-14 and the 52-week low at USD 332.00/tonne on 2026-01-01.

Chinese steel scrap prices rose 0.39% for the week ending August 31 as mills increased procurement prices amid improved cost-effectiveness. Electric arc furnace capacity utilisation climbed 1.62% week-on-week to 52.94% by August 28.

Supply remained tight, with limited yard activity and tax-related circulation constraints through late August. Coking coal supply disruptions in Shanxi during the final week of August drove up coke prices, leading steel mills to raise scrap usage. Social inventories rose only 0.46% by August 26.
