Steel Scrap Price in China Slips to USD 350.56/tonne
Steel scrap in China eased 0.3% on the week to USD 350.56/tonne as holiday-related disruptions limited scrap arrivals.
Steel scrap in China was quoted at USD 350.56/tonne as of 2026-09-29, down 0.3% from USD 351.56/tonne on 2026-09-22. The price is up 0.2% over the month from USD 349.96/tonne on 2026-08-28 and up 0.5% over the quarter from USD 348.95/tonne on 2026-07-01. On a year-on-year basis it has gained 2.4% from USD 342.38/tonne on 2025-09-29.
The 52-week high stands at USD 356.51/tonne, recorded on 2026-05-14. The 52-week low is USD 332.00/tonne, set on 2026-01-01.
According to Shanghai Metals Market, EAF steel mills in China reduced operating rates by 1.3% as of September 29 due to insufficient scrap arrivals and production margin declines. Shanghai Metals Market also reported that transportation hindrances and yard closures during the Mid-Autumn Festival caused a drop in steel scrap arrivals. Mysteel reported that Chinese EAF steelmakers increased production for five consecutive weeks through September 24 as margins improved from wider scrap-rebar spreads.
SteelOrbis reported on 2026-09-30 that scrap traders accelerated shipments before the National Day holiday to improve cash flow after expected restocking failed to materialize.
