Steel Plate Price in China Rises 0.9% to USD 448/tonne

Steel plate prices in China stood at USD 448.00/tonne as of 2026-08-24, a weekly rise of 0.9% from USD 444.00/tonne on 2026-08-10. The month-on-month change was an increase of 0.4% from USD 446.00/tonne on 2026-07-13, while the quarter-on-quarter comparison showed a decline of 0.7% from USD 451.00/tonne on 2026-05-25.

Claight market monitoring shows that market sentiment and futures market movements drove steel plate prices up in late August 2026.

Cost-side pressure built during the month. Shanghai Metals Market reported that tighter safety inspections in Shanxi and raw coal production cuts boosted coke costs. Shanghai Metals Market also reported that blast furnace maintenance in August resulted in a net production reduction of 6.38 million mt.

On a yearly basis, the price was up 8.0% from USD 415.00/tonne on 2025-08-11. Over the past 52 weeks, the high was USD 452.00/tonne on 2026-05-11 and the low was USD 414.00/tonne on 2025-08-25.
