Steel plate prices in China stood at USD 448.00/tonne as of 2026-08-24, an increase of 0.9% from USD 444.00/tonne on 2026-08-10. The month change was +0.4%, from USD 446.00/tonne on 2026-07-13, while the quarter change was -0.7%, from USD 451.00/tonne on 2026-05-25. Year on year, prices are up 8.0% from USD 415.00/tonne on 2025-08-11.

Claight market monitoring shows that futures market trends and positive sentiment drove a rapid rise in spot prices for mild steel plates between August 24 and August 28. Separately, Shanghai Metals Market reported that tighter safety inspections and raw coal production cuts in Shanxi intensified coking coal supply constraints, boosting cost-push pressure on steel.

On the supply side, the China Iron and Steel Association reported that domestic inventory of medium steel plates remained stable in the 21 major cities as of August 31, compared to levels on August 20.

Over the past 52 weeks, the price reached a high of USD 452.00/tonne on 2026-05-11 and a low of USD 414.00/tonne on 2025-08-25.
