Stainless Steel Price in China Falls 2.0% to USD 2,115/tonne
Stainless steel in China eased to USD 2,115/tonne on 2026-09-03, down over the week, month and quarter while remaining higher year on year.
Stainless steel prices in China stood at USD 2,115/tonne as of 2026-09-03, down 2.0% from USD 2,158/tonne on 2026-08-27. The monthly change was -3.5% from USD 2,191/tonne on 2026-08-04, and the quarterly change was -4.2% from USD 2,209/tonne on 2026-06-05. On a yearly basis the price was up 15.1% from USD 1,837/tonne on 2025-09-03. The 52-week high was USD 2,264/tonne on 2026-05-07 and the 52-week low was USD 1,760/tonne on 2025-11-24.
Supply-side data show mixed signals. The Stainless Steel Council of China Iron and Steel Association reported on 2026-09-02 that China's July crude stainless steel output declined by 0.6 percent month-on-month. The General Administration of Customs reported on 2026-08-21 that China's stainless steel exports fell 12.3 percent in July compared to the previous month.
On inventories and scrap, Mysteel reported on 2026-09-04 that stainless steel social inventory in Wuxi and Foshan declined 1 percent during the week of August 28 to September 3. Shanghai Metals Market reported on 2026-09-04 that mainstream 304 stainless off-cut prices in Shanghai fell by 200 yuan per metric tonne to 10,100 yuan per metric tonne.
