Rebar Price in China Edges Up 0.6% to USD 469.54/tonne

Chinese rebar holds near its recent range as production dips and demand and costs move higher.

Rebar in China was quoted at USD 469.54/tonne as of 2026-09-04, up 0.6% from USD 466.61/tonne on 2026-08-28. Over the month the price has gained 4.9% from USD 447.71/tonne on 2026-08-05, while the quarterly change stands at 0.0% from USD 469.48/tonne on 2026-06-05. Year on year the price is up 6.2% from USD 442.18/tonne on 2025-09-04. The 52-week high is USD 485.39/tonne, set on 2026-05-12, and the 52-week low is USD 436.77/tonne, recorded on 2025-10-14.

Supply-side data point to tighter availability. Mysteel reports that rebar production among 137 tracked mills declined 4% for the week of August 20-26 due to rolling mill maintenance.

Demand has strengthened over the same period. According to Promisteel, apparent rebar demand increased 8.87% to 1.94 million tonnes during the week of August 11-17.

Cost pressure is also building. Shanghai Metals Market reports that a fourth round of coke price increases was implemented during the week ending September 4, raising production costs. The National Bureau of Statistics states that national average rebar prices rose 2.2% in late August compared with mid-August levels.
