Raw Silk Price in China Rises 0.6% to USD 64,015/tonne
Raw silk in China edged higher over the week and month, though the price remains lower than a year ago.
Raw silk in China was quoted at USD 64,015/tonne as of 2026-09-04, up 0.6% from USD 63,608/tonne on 2026-08-28. Over the month the price rose 1.6% from USD 62,978/tonne on 2026-08-05. Measured against the quarter, the price is down 2.0% from USD 65,315/tonne on 2026-06-05, and it sits 2.8% below the USD 65,876/tonne recorded on 2025-09-04.
The 52-week high stands at USD 67,210/tonne, reached on 2026-02-26. The 52-week low of USD 61,959/tonne was set on 2026-08-26, less than two weeks before the latest quote.
According to Business Society, cocoon supply remains tight in Sichuan, Jiangsu, Guangxi and Yunnan owing to El Nino-linked production issues. Business Society also reported that weaving enterprises increased raw silk purchasing and stocking during the off-season to meet rigid demand.
On the supply side, DreamSilk reported that automated reeling and IoT-assisted silkworm raising in Guangxi have stabilized domestic raw silk output. China Financial Information Network noted that depreciation of the Indian rupee against the RMB reduced purchasing power and inhibited demand for imported raw silk.
