Purified terephthalic acid in China climbed to USD 977.85/tonne on 2026-09-04, up 5.8% on the week as plant outages tightened supply.
Purified terephthalic acid in China was priced at USD 977.85/tonne as of 2026-09-04, an increase of 5.8% from USD 924.47/tonne on 2026-08-28. The commodity has gained 9.6% over the month, from USD 892.08/tonne on 2026-08-05, and 47.3% over the year, from USD 663.87/tonne on 2025-09-04. The quarter change stands at 0.9%, from USD 969.26/tonne on 2026-06-05. The 52-week high is USD 1,018/tonne on 2026-05-06 and the 52-week low is USD 612.52/tonne on 2025-10-20.
Several supply-side developments have coincided with the price movement. According to CCFGroup, Dushan Energy's 2.5 million mt/year and Yisheng Dalian's 3.75 million mt/year PTA units entered scheduled maintenance on 2026-08-19. CCFGroup also reported on 2026-08-07 that China's domestic PTA operating rate fell to a record low of 49.5% amid typhoon-related logistics disruptions. OPIS reported on 2026-08-24 that heavy maintenance turnarounds at domestic PX plants constrained local supply and increased import reliance for PTA producers.
According to Sina Finance, social inventories of PTA fell to a 44-month low in mid-August owing to production cuts and plant outages. Some capacity has since returned: 100ppi reported on 2026-09-01 that Honggang Petrochemical's 2.5 million mt/year PTA unit, shut down since July 1, began output on August 26.
