Polysilicon Price in China Jumps 25.2% to USD 5,960/tonne
Prices climbed to USD 5,960/tonne as Chinese producers, regulators and industry bodies moved to curb below-cost selling and overcapacity.
Polysilicon in China was quoted at USD 5,960/tonne on 2026-09-04, up 25.2% from USD 4,761/tonne on 2026-08-28. The price is up 24.4% on the month from USD 4,790/tonne on 2026-08-05 and 14.8% on the quarter from USD 5,193/tonne on 2026-06-05. It remains 14.9% below the USD 7,002/tonne recorded on 2025-09-04. The 52-week high stands at USD 7,796/tonne on 2026-02-26 and the low at USD 4,644/tonne on 2026-08-07.
According to OPIS, eight major Chinese producers signed an initiative on August 6 to stop selling photovoltaic products below full production costs in order to curb price competition. The China Photovoltaic Industry Association had released a unified cost-accounting standard on July 27 to establish production cost benchmarks across the supply chain, also reported by OPIS.
PV Magazine Global reported that market regulators and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology held a price compliance meeting on July 31, instructing manufacturers to end predatory pricing. Authorities in Yunnan suspended an 18.33 GW ingot project on August 5, mandating a 3-for-1 retirement of existing manufacturing capacity to address overcapacity.
A national energy consumption standard for polysilicon production takes effect on January 1, 2027, and will force inefficient plants to upgrade or face closure, according to PV Magazine Global.
