PET Price in China Rises 6.7% to USD 1,231/tonne

Polyethylene terephthalate in China climbed to USD 1,231/tonne on 2026-09-04 as feedstock constraints and regional production cuts tightened supply.

Polyethylene terephthalate in China was quoted at USD 1,231/tonne as of 2026-09-04, up 6.7% from USD 1,153/tonne a week earlier and up 8.9% from USD 1,130/tonne on 2026-08-05. The quarterly move was smaller, a rise of 0.7% from USD 1,222/tonne on 2026-06-05, while the year change stands at 49.0% from USD 825.90/tonne on 2025-09-04. The 52-week high is USD 1,394/tonne, set on 2026-05-06, and the 52-week low is USD 798.96/tonne, set on 2025-10-21.

According to CCFGroup, a Middle East conflict prompted production cuts of nearly 7 million tons by major PET producers including Yisheng and Wankai as they managed thin margins. SSESSMENTS.COM reported that shortages of PTA and MEG feedstocks, caused by maintenance and trade bottlenecks, forced PET operating rates down to 80%.

Claight market monitoring shows simultaneous maintenance at multiple PTA plants lowered industry operating rates to a yearly low of 63%, tightening spot supply. CommoPlast reported that Chinese PET export offers exceeded $1,100 per ton in a rally driven by the feedstock supply squeeze.
