Several supply-side developments have accompanied the rise. According to CCFGroup, major PTA units including Dushan Energy and Yisheng Dalian underwent scheduled maintenance in mid-August, tightening supply. CCFGroup also reported that polyester staple fiber producers began cutting output in late August after processing spreads shrank to fresh lows, and that producers voluntarily reduced operating rates in August to tighten spot supply and support prices, according to Claight market monitoring.
On the feedstock side, ChinaTexnet.com reported that China's total MEG inventories fell to multi-year lows in August and September due to blocked shipments in the Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb Strait. CCFGroup linked Middle East geopolitical tensions disrupting shipping through the Strait of Hormuz to higher Brent crude oil prices. The price stood at USD 1,227/tonne as of the latest assessment.
