Neodymium Price in China Falls 0.8% to USD 142,133/tonne
The weekly decline extends a monthly loss, though the metal remains well above its level a year ago.
Neodymium in China was quoted at USD 142,133/tonne as of 2026-09-03, down 0.8% from USD 143,223/tonne on 2026-08-27. On a monthly basis the price is down 2.3% from USD 145,479/tonne on 2026-08-04. Over the quarter the price has risen 2.3% from USD 138,937/tonne on 2026-06-05, and the year-on-year gain stands at 26.6% from USD 112,306/tonne on 2025-09-03.
According to Shanghai Metals Market (SMM), recycled PrNd oxide output in China rose 15.35% month-on-month in August, driven by increased operating rates at large recyclers. SMM also reported that NdFeB downstream demand contracted in July due to weak domestic sales and weather-related plant maintenance, delaying the typical peak season.
Chinese permanent magnet exports declined 4% month-on-month in July due to seasonal holidays and export licensing delays, according to SMM.
On the policy side, China issued consolidated national production control quotas for light rare earth mining and smelting for the second half of 2026, as reported by East Asia Brief on 2026-08-28. Over the past 52 weeks the commodity reached a high of USD 164,443/tonne on 2026-02-26 and a low of USD 95,824/tonne on 2025-10-24.
