Mild steel plate prices in China stood at USD 510.40/tonne as of 2026-09-30, unchanged from USD 510.18/tonne a week earlier. The monthly change was +0.2% from USD 509.25/tonne on 2026-08-31, while the quarter change was +2.8% from USD 496.68/tonne on 2026-07-02. The year change stood at +8.1% from USD 472.22/tonne on 2025-09-30.
The 52-week high was USD 514.39/tonne on 2026-09-04 and the 52-week low was USD 455.59/tonne on 2026-01-06.
On the supply side, Claight market monitoring shows that steel mill blast furnace capacity utilization fell to 88.49% by September 24 as mills cut production to manage losses. The same Claight market monitoring records that daily hot metal output across 247 surveyed steel mills dropped by 19,700 tonnes to 2.3566 million tonnes by September 24.
On the demand side, the World Ports Organization reports that finished steel inventories at CISA-monitored mills rose 5.1% in September through the 20th due to weaker-than-expected seasonal demand. On costs, Shanghai Metals Market reports that three ministries issued coal supply stabilization policies in September, leading to a decline in coking coal and coke costs.
