Mild steel plate in China was priced at USD 514.39/tonne as of 2026-09-04, up 1.0% from USD 509.16/tonne on 2026-08-28. The price is up 3.3% over the month from USD 498.08/tonne on 2026-08-05 and 1.4% over the quarter from USD 507.27/tonne on 2026-06-05. Year on year, the price has risen 8.9% from USD 472.22/tonne on 2025-09-04. The 2026-09-04 quote is the 52-week high, against a low of USD 455.59/tonne on 2026-01-06.

According to Claight market monitoring, domestic coking coal and coke prices rose following four rounds of price hikes, shifting the steel market from a negative-feedback decline to a cost-driven rebound.

Shanghai Metals Market reported that Chinese steel mills initiated 17 blast furnace maintenance programs in August 2026, reducing daily hot metal output by approximately 92,700 tonnes. SteelOrbis data show that CISA-member steel mills reported finished steel inventories rose 6.7% between August 10 and August 20, 2026, amid slack seasonal demand.

Promisteel reported that China's five major steel product inventories fell 1.49% to 16.2856 million tonnes by mid-August, the first destocking since July, and that Japan imposed provisional anti-dumping duties of 29.2% to 55.3% on specified Chinese hot-dipped galvanized steel from August 8 to December 7, 2026.
