Metal silicon in China was quoted at USD 1,413/tonne as of 2026-09-04, up 0.7% from USD 1,403/tonne on 2026-08-28. The price is up 2.7% over the month from USD 1,375/tonne on 2026-08-05, up 1.2% over the quarter from USD 1,395/tonne on 2026-06-05 and up 7.4% over the year from USD 1,315/tonne on 2025-09-04. The 2026-09-04 quote is the 52-week high; the 52-week low of USD 1,315/tonne was set on 2025-09-04.

According to Shanghai Metals Market (SMM), a major manufacturer in Xinjiang planned to shut down 32 furnaces on August 31, 2026, due to the cancellation of preferential electricity rates.

Shanghai Metals Market (SMM) also reported that industrial electricity rates in Gansu and Ningxia rose by 5% to over 10% year-on-year in August 2026, increasing production cash costs.
