Magnesium Price in China Rises 1.9% to USD 2,404/tonne

Magnesium in China was quoted at USD 2,404/tonne as of 2026-09-03, up 1.9% from USD 2,359/tonne a week earlier. The price is up 1.8% over the month from USD 2,362/tonne on 2026-08-04. Over the quarter it is down 1.1% from USD 2,431/tonne on 2026-06-05, and the year-on-year change is -0.3% from USD 2,411/tonne on 2025-09-03.

According to Shanghai Metals Market, seven primary magnesium smelters cut production or halted operations in late August 2026 due to rising energy costs. The same source reported that Hongliulin lump coal transaction prices surged from 723 yuan/mt to 1,184 yuan/mt in late August 2026, and that average 75 percent ferrosilicon prices rose from 5,950 yuan/mt to 6,150 yuan/mt over the same period.

Shanghai Metals Market also reported that four primary magnesium smelters reduced or suspended production between August 28 and September 3, 2026.

The 52-week high for the commodity stands at USD 2,570/tonne on 2026-04-08, and the 52-week low at USD 2,203/tonne on 2025-12-11.
