Low-density polyethylene prices in China rose to USD 1,773/tonne as of 2026-09-04, an increase of 10.7% from USD 1,602/tonne a week earlier. The price is up 16.2% over the month from USD 1,526/tonne on 2026-08-05 and 16.9% over the quarter from USD 1,517/tonne on 2026-06-05. Year on year, the commodity has gained 31.4% from USD 1,349/tonne on 2025-09-04. The 2026-09-04 quotation stands at the 52-week high, against a low of USD 1,186/tonne recorded on 2025-12-24.
Supply-side factors have supported the rise. ChemNet reported on 2026-09-02 that restarts of Zhejiang Petrochemical and Yulong Petrochemical PE plants were delayed, restricting 900,000 tons of capacity. OilChem noted on 2026-08-21 that polyethylene production fell 2.32% month-on-month in August owing to widespread unit maintenance.
Claight market monitoring shows China's domestic LDPE imports totalled 142,300 tonnes in July 2026, a 44.54% year-on-year decline, and that domestic PE producer inventory levels fell 10.44% month-on-month as of 2026-08-26. ChemOrbis reported on 2026-09-03 that crude oil prices surged on renewed geopolitical hostilities in the Middle East, increasing production costs.
