LLDPE Price in China Rises 7.3% to USD 1,358/tonne
Restart delays and maintenance across Chinese polyethylene units have supported a price now 31.2% higher than a year ago.
The price of linear low-density polyethylene in China rose to USD 1,358/tonne as of 2026-09-04, up 7.3% from USD 1,266/tonne a week earlier. The commodity is up 11.9% on the month from USD 1,214/tonne and 11.0% on the quarter from USD 1,224/tonne. Year on year, the price is 31.2% higher than the USD 1,035/tonne recorded on 2025-09-04.
According to ChemNet, restart delays at Zhejiang Petrochemical 2# and Yulong Petrochemical 2# plants restricted 900,000 tons of capacity, a development dated 2026-09-02. The 52-week high of USD 1,360/tonne was set on 2026-09-02, within two days of the latest quote.
Supply-side tightness extended through August. Claight market monitoring shows domestic PE producer inventories decreased by 10.44% month-on-month as of August 26. Multiple domestic PE units including Ningxia Baofeng and Zhongtian Hechuang underwent maintenance in August, according to Claight market monitoring dated 2026-08-31.
New capacity has also entered the market. CCFGroup reported on 2026-08-19 that PetroChina Tarim II launched two 450,000-ton/year polyethylene plants in August. Against that addition, the 52-week low of USD 908.84/tonne was recorded on 2025-12-26, meaning the price has risen 31.2% over the past year while trading within a USD 908.84/tonne to USD 1,360/tonne range.
