Iron Ore Price in China Rises 0.7% to USD 107.12/tonne
Iron ore in China climbed 0.7% on the week to USD 107.12/tonne as port inventories fell and mill demand weakened.
Iron ore in China was quoted at USD 107.12/tonne as of 2026-09-04, up 0.7% from USD 106.35/tonne on 2026-08-28. The price rose 6.3% over the month from USD 100.81/tonne on 2026-08-05, though it remains 3.6% lower on the quarter against USD 111.17/tonne on 2026-06-05 and 3.0% lower on the year against USD 110.48/tonne on 2025-09-04. Over the past 52 weeks the price reached a high of USD 120.83/tonne on 2026-01-12 and a low of USD 100.59/tonne on 2026-08-04.
According to Mysteel, China's iron ore port inventories dropped 1.4% to 171.3 million tonnes by September 3 due to typhoon-related arrival disruptions.
Reuters reported that China's July iron ore imports fell 4% from June as domestic steelmakers performed equipment maintenance amid shrinking margins. Reuters also reported on 2026-08-06 that a state-owned buyer directed some steel mills to halt new contract negotiations with Rio Tinto starting in September. Shanghai Metals Market reported that some Chinese steel mills scheduled additional blast furnace maintenance due to tight coke supplies, weakening iron ore demand.
