Hot Rolled Coil Price in China Slips 0.4% to USD 492.50/tonne
Chinese hot rolled coil prices eased over the week and month even as Baosteel lifted October domestic offers.
Hot rolled coil prices in China stood at USD 492.50/tonne as of 2026-10-02, down 0.4% from USD 494.25/tonne on 2026-09-25. The month-on-month change was a decline of 2.3% from USD 504.35/tonne on 2026-09-02.
Over the quarter, the price is up 1.3% from USD 486.03/tonne on 2026-07-03, and on a yearly basis it is up 3.6% from USD 475.22/tonne on 2025-10-02. The 52-week high is USD 515.26/tonne, recorded on 2026-05-11, and the 52-week low is USD 466.24/tonne, recorded on 2025-11-07.
On the supply side, the China Iron and Steel Association reported that CISA member mills reduced daily crude steel output by 0.1% to 1.922 million metric tons during September 11-20. A Mysteel survey showed HRC production among 37 steelmakers dipped 0.33% to 2.86 million tonnes during September 17-23.
The same association data showed finished steel inventories at member mills reached 17.08 million mt as of September 20, up 11.7% year-on-year. Against this backdrop of lower output and higher stocks, Baosteel announced a 200 yuan/t increase in HRC prices for October domestic deliveries, according to GMK Center on 2026-09-23.
