According to Mysteel, Chinese steelmakers idled facilities and contracted hot rolled coil output by 1.4% during August 20-26 due to persistent margin losses. Shanghai Metals Market (SMM) reported that coking coal supply tightened following intensified safety inspections in Shanxi and raw coal production cuts. Claight market monitoring shows domestic hot rolled coil prices reached an average of 3,415 RMB/ton, with multiple rounds of coke price hikes providing strong cost support.
Japan imposed provisional anti-dumping duties of 29.2% to 55.3% on specified Chinese steel products effective August 8, according to Promisteel. The duty measure applies to Chinese steel exports, while the domestic price remains underpinned by production reductions and higher input costs.
