High-Density Polyethylene Price in China Rises 2.4% to USD 1,617/tonne
Chinese high-density polyethylene prices continued to climb as producer inventories fell and capacity restarts were delayed.
High-density polyethylene in China was priced at USD 1,617/tonne as of 2026-09-04, up 2.4% from USD 1,579/tonne on 2026-08-28. The commodity has risen 4.4% over the month from USD 1,548/tonne on 2026-08-05 and 7.4% over the quarter from USD 1,506/tonne on 2026-06-05.
On a yearly basis, the price is up 45.0% from USD 1,115/tonne on 2025-09-04. The 52-week high stands at USD 1,635/tonne, reached on 2026-09-02, while the 52-week low of USD 969.43/tonne was recorded on 2025-12-25.
Supply-side factors have supported the recent move. Claight market monitoring shows domestic PE producers' inventories fell 10.44% month-on-month by August 26, 2026. ChemNet reported that restarts for 900,000 tons of PE capacity at Zhejiang and Yulong Petrochemical were delayed as of August 31, 2026. OilChem data indicates PE maintenance-induced production losses rose 6.57% month-on-month by August 18, 2026.
New capacity has also entered the market. CCFGroup reported that two 450,000-ton/year PetroChina Tarim II plants were launched in August 2026.
