Formaldehyde Price in China Rises 10.2% to USD 225.11/tonne
Prices climbed to a 52-week high as feedstock costs lifted producer quotes across Shandong.
Formaldehyde prices in China rose 10.2% week on week to USD 225.11/tonne as of 2026-09-03, up from USD 204.23/tonne on 2026-08-27, according to Claight market monitoring. The level is the 52-week high, against a 52-week low of USD 146.55/tonne recorded on 2025-11-20.
Over the month the price gained 20.7%, from USD 186.57/tonne on 2026-08-04. The quarter change stands at +10.2% from USD 204.34/tonne on 2026-06-05, and the price is up 48.3% year on year from USD 151.84/tonne on 2025-09-03.
Claight market monitoring shows that producers in Shandong raised ex-factory quotes multiple times in mid-August because of higher methanol feedstock costs. Producers had earlier curtailed operating rates and performed maintenance in July to offset poor profit margins and manage inventory.
Demand-side conditions remained mixed. Downstream wood-based panel manufacturers curtailed operating rates throughout July and August due to high temperatures and rainfall, Claight market monitoring shows. Separately, the mandatory implementation of GB18580-2025 on June 1 required E0-grade adhesives, causing short-term production cuts and structural demand pressure, according to Claight market monitoring.
