Supply-side restraint has shaped the market. According to MYSTEEL on 2026-08-11, smelters reduced production or suspended operations in August 2026 due to operating losses. Golden International Trade reported on 2026-08-07 that several large-scale producers in Gansu implemented full furnace stoppages as a defensive measure against high electricity costs.

Cost pressure has continued into September. MYSTEEL reported on 2026-09-01 that increased domestic prices of semi-coke lifted production costs for Chinese ferrosilicon smelters.

Together, the output cuts and rising input costs have accompanied the move in quoted prices over the period in question.
