According to ChemAnalyst on 2026-09-02, battery-related procurement demand remained robust, sustaining contract pull-through even as downstream polycarbonate and coatings demand softened, muting discretionary spot activity. ChemAnalyst also reported that a large high-purity unit was commissioned in late July, increasing merchant supply.

On the supply side, Claight market monitoring shows that maintenance at several facilities limited effective output and tightened spot supplies, a factor recorded on 2026-08-27. On the cost side, Claight monitoring noted on 2026-07-29 that methanol prices softened from late-July highs, reducing cost-push pressure on producers.

The combination of tightened spot availability and steady battery-sector offtake has carried the price to USD 803.68/tonne, a level 51.1% above where it stood on 2025-09-03.
