Supply-side developments have moved in opposing directions. According to ChemNet on 2026-09-02, Jiangsu Shenghong Petrochemical restarted its 900,000-ton ethylene glycol and diethylene glycol unit in late August, increasing domestic supply capacity. East China port inventories had earlier fallen to a record low of 3,600 tons by July 20 due to import disruptions and domestic maintenance, according to AchillesChem on 2026-07-21.
Demand conditions have also weighed on the price. ChemNet reported on 2026-09-02 that polyester sector operating rates dropped to approximately 78% in September, reflecting weak downstream demand that constrained price support.
