Cryolite Price in China Edges Up to USD 1,227/tonne
Cryolite in China closed the week 0.1% higher at USD 1,227/tonne as tight fluorite supply and rising aluminium smelting costs shaped the cost base.
Cryolite in China was quoted at USD 1,227/tonne as of 2026-10-01, up 0.1% from USD 1,225/tonne on 2026-09-24. The month change stands at +0.3% from USD 1,224/tonne on 2026-09-01, and the quarter change at +1.8% from USD 1,205/tonne on 2026-07-03. The year change is -0.5% from USD 1,233/tonne on 2025-10-01. Over the past 52 weeks the high was USD 1,260/tonne on 2025-12-03 and the low was USD 1,168/tonne on 2026-03-27.
According to Shanghai Metals Market (SMM), high-pressure safety inspections and mine closures in major producing regions kept fluorite supply tight and prices firm. Fluorite is a key upstream input for cryolite production, so the firmness in that feedstock has supported costs across the fluorine chemicals chain.
SMM also reported that benchmark enterprises finalized September aluminium fluoride tender prices with increases of 300-500 yuan/mt, and that aluminium smelting industry costs rose 0.3% month-on-month in September 2026 due to higher power and auxiliary material costs. Both developments point to firmer cost conditions in the downstream aluminium sector that consumes cryolite.
On the trade side, ChemPriceHub reported that China's cumulative cryolite exports from January to August 2026 totaled 62,100 metric tons, a 274.10% year-on-year increase, indicating a much larger volume of material leaving the domestic market this year.
