Coking Coal Price in China Rises 4.6% to USD 349.99/tonne
Coking coal in China has climbed 29.5% over the past month, reaching a 52-week high as Shanxi mine suspensions and slower Mongolian deliveries constrain supply.
Coking coal in China was quoted at USD 349.99/tonne as of 2026-09-04, up 4.6% from USD 334.59/tonne a week earlier. The price has risen 29.5% over the month from USD 270.19/tonne on 2026-08-05 and stands 38.3% higher over the quarter from USD 253.12/tonne on 2026-06-05. Year on year, the increase is 74.3% from USD 200.78/tonne on 2025-09-04. The 2026-09-04 quote is the 52-week high; the 52-week low of USD 197.38/tonne was set on 2025-09-11.
Supply disruptions in Shanxi have featured in the move. Claight market monitoring shows safety inspections in the province caused 54 coking coal mines with 58.7 million tonnes of capacity to suspend operations on 2026-08-20. BigMint reported on 2026-08-12 that authorities in Changzhi, Shanxi, mandated that mines complete stringent inspection and acceptance procedures before resuming production.
Claight market monitoring also shows that Linfen, Shanxi released its 15th Five-Year Plan for coal capacity on 2026-08-25, prioritizing new mine approvals. Separately, China Energy News reported on 2026-08-15 that daily truck customs clearance for Mongolian coking coal at Ganqimaodu dropped from 1,300 to 600 vehicles.
Against these figures, the weekly gain of 4.6% brought the quoted price to its highest level of the past 52 weeks.
