Feedstock costs have moved higher, with coconut shell prices reaching 38 rupees per kg in India amid rising global demand for activated carbon in water and air purification, according to Blooming Global. Growing industrial demand for value-added coconut products has also produced record export earnings of 4,688 crore rupees for activated charcoal in FY 2025/26.
Supply-side pressure continues, as increased domestic use of coconut shells as a cooking fuel tightens feedstock availability for industrial charcoal manufacturers in India. Rising global consumption of coconut derivatives and improved market access through new trade agreements have consolidated India's position as a leading exporter, according to Claight market monitoring.
