Chloroform Price in China Rises 2.6% to USD 315.41/tonne
Chinese chloroform prices edged higher over the week as supply developments and rising methanol costs shaped the domestic market.
Chloroform in China was quoted at USD 315.41/tonne as of 2026-09-04, up 2.6% from USD 307.50/tonne on 2026-08-28. The monthly move was 3.0%, from USD 306.18/tonne on 2026-08-05. Despite these recent gains, the quarterly change stands at -23.8%, down from USD 413.86/tonne on 2026-06-05. On an annual basis, the price is 15.5% higher than the USD 273.08/tonne recorded on 2025-09-04.
Over the past 52 weeks, the commodity reached a high of USD 424.70/tonne on 2026-04-10 and a low of USD 233.85/tonne on 2025-11-05.
Supply-side activity has influenced the Chinese market in recent months. Dongying Huatai Chemical restarted its 160,000-ton/year methane chloride unit on July 1, 2026, increasing domestic supply [1]. More recently, Huichang Yonghe shut down its 100,000-ton/year methane chloride unit on August 19, 2026, tightening localized supply [2][3].
On the cost side, methanol spot prices rose 9.19% in August 2026, providing increased cost support for chloroform production in China [2]. The combination of reduced capacity at one producer and higher input costs has coincided with the upward movement in weekly and monthly prices, even as the market remains well below its level at the start of the quarter.
