Benzene in China is priced at USD 1,504/tonne as of 2026-09-29, a weekly rise of 2.7% from USD 1,465/tonne on 2026-09-22. The monthly change stands at 26.1% from USD 1,193/tonne on 2026-08-28, the quarterly change at 51.4% from USD 993.94/tonne on 2026-07-01, and the year change at 82.8% from USD 823.17/tonne on 2025-09-29.
Supply-side factors have narrowed availability. OPIS reported that benzene production capacity of 529,000 mt was removed in July due to heavy plant maintenance across China. Allway Chemical reported that East China benzene port inventories fell to 38,000 tonnes by mid-September, the lowest level in five years.
Refinery output has also contracted. According to Allway Chemical, domestic refinery operating rates declined to 73.22% by September 17, down 8.3% year-on-year due to feedstock delays.
Claight market monitoring shows that Middle East geopolitical tensions and Strait of Hormuz shipping risks increased naphtha and crude benzene feedstock costs. Over the past 52 weeks, benzene in China traded between a high of USD 1,735/tonne on 2026-03-09 and a low of USD 724.64/tonne on 2025-10-30.
